For many development teams, this module has been more than just a tool; it has been the primary engine for managing sprints, stories, and epics for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Understanding the roadmap for this transition is essential for maintaining operational continuity and alignment with ServiceNow\u2019s modern architectural standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-legacy-of-iterative-growth\">Agile 2.0: The main tool of many development teams<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agile 2.0 has long been established as one of the most effective tools for ServiceNow developers. The module provides comprehensive support for team sprints, allowing stories to be seamlessly categorised into products, epics, or themes. This functionality is consolidated into two primary workspaces: the <strong>Agile Board<\/strong> and the <strong>Scrum Program Planning Board<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-800207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image1.png 960w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image1-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image1-768x432.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: ServiceNow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Historically, it was unique as a module found in nearly every customer instance due to its availability as a free inclusion. Despite its ubiquity, its configuration varied significantly between organisations, offering a tailored experience for developers, Agileists, Scrum Masters, and Product Owners alike. This created a &#8220;drinking your own champagne&#8221; environment, where implementers were simultaneously the primary end-users of the product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agile 2.0 is the culmination of 15 years of iterative refinement. The following timeline illustrates its evolution from a basic life cycle tool to the current enterprise solution:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">October 2010 &#8211; Fall 2010<\/mark>: Initial Release of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), the ancestor of Agile Development. A separate plugin (SDLC &#8211; SCRUM) could be installed to add sprints and stories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">July 2012 &#8211; Berlin:<\/mark> SDLC integration with project management (to help manage Agile Software projects)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">May 2016 &#8211; Helsinki:<\/mark> SDLC focuses on the Scrum methodology and is rebranded \u2018Agile Development\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">June 2017 &#8211; Jakarta: <\/mark>Agile Development 2.0 Release (replacing Agile Development)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">March 2020 &#8211; Paris:<\/mark> Agile Development 2.0 mobile App (has anyone used this?)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">February 2023 &#8211; Vancouver: <\/mark>Next Experience support (for the better looks)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">March 2024 &#8211; Washington:<\/mark> GenAI integration (Now Assist) to help write and process stories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-primary-color\">November 2025 &#8211; Zurich:<\/mark> Agile 2.0 is marked for deprecation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-deprecation-roadmap\">The deprecation roadmap<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the term &#8220;deprecation&#8221; can cause concern, the transition is structured to allow existing customers ample time to pivot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"958\" height=\"468\" src=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image8.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-800342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image8.png 958w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image8-300x147.png 300w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image8-768x375.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 958px) 100vw, 958px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: ServiceNow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The timeline is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>January 2026 (end of sale):<\/strong> New subscriptions to the Agile 2.0 SKU will no longer be possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Q3 2026 (end of renewal):<\/strong> This marks the final opportunity for existing subscribers to renew their Agile 2.0 contracts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Q3 2029 (full deprecation):<\/strong> Based on standard three-year contract cycles, the application will be fully deprecated once the final active contracts expire (approx. Q3 2029).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">Once deprecated, the module will remain functional but will be treated as <strong>custom code<\/strong>. ServiceNow will no longer provide enhancements, upgrades, or technical support for the module<sup><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Allegedly, companies using Agile 2.0 efficiently and having a strong in-house development team will not be significantly affected, as they can keep maintaining the module as-is themselves.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-next-chapter-eap-amp-cwm\">The next chapter: EAP &amp; CWM<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ServiceNow is directing customers toward two primary successors designed to offer greater flexibility and better user experiences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"958\" height=\"535\" src=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-800261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image3.jpg 958w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image3-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image3-768x429.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 958px) 100vw, 958px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: ServiceNow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-collaborative-work-management-cwm\">1. Collaborative Work Management (CWM)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicenow.com\/community\/cwm-articles\/welcome-to-the-servicenow-collaborative-work-management\/ta-p\/3018724\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ServiceNow CWM<\/a> is a versatile product, either available as a standalone or included within the <strong>SPM Package<\/strong>. It is aimed at single-team agile planning or siloed teams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"572\" src=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image5-1024x572.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-800315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image5-1024x572.png 1024w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image5-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image5-768x429.png 768w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image5.png 1190w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: ServiceNow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It provides &#8216;<em>Boards<\/em>&#8216; that you can share with your team and in which you can freely add:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>tasks (linked or not with other artefacts within the platform)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2018custom\u2019 columns (up to 100 per board)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>automations (Mini business rules. Eg: send a mail, change a value, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Docs (free text zones, think One Note)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And it even has its own tiny Gantt chart<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CWM also completely revamps \u2018<em>My Work<\/em>\u2019 and makes it much more user friendly than the list view previously available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"572\" src=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image4-1024x572.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-800288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image4-1024x572.png 1024w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image4-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image4-768x429.png 768w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image4.png 1189w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: ServiceNow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In summary, CWM wants to take everything that made Agile 2.0 work great for Devs, and make it available for the business too. Everything is much more user friendly and accessible, even without prior knowledge of ServiceNow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Collaborative Work Management | Overview\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EEdbdw2XXcw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-secondary-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">And if you want to become pro at CWM, the Now Learning training is already available <a href=\"https:\/\/learning.servicenow.com\/lxp\/en\/strategic-portfolio-management\/collaborative-work-management-cwm-essentials?id=learning_course_prev&amp;course_id=70da8c0487c0a2d4a3bc40c5cebb35ef&amp;s=1&amp;ssa=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the upcoming releases (planned for March 2026), ServiceNow teased a lot of interesting additional features, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Formula Columns<\/strong> to automatically calculate totals, metrics, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dependencies <\/strong>between the tasks, made visible by colored lines in a Kanban view.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Scrum Task <\/strong>automatically generated from stories (using NowAssist)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>An<\/strong> <strong>OOB direct integration with SPM\u2019s Project Workspace<\/strong> to send the project tasks straight to a team\u2019s CWM board.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2-enterprise-agile-planning-eap\">2. Enterprise Agile Planning (EAP)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enterprise Agile Planning (EAP) will be the recommendation for anyone wanting to work in a \u2018Team of Teams\u2019 structure. That is leveraging multiple teams, all with their own workload and capacity, towards a single objective.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Any organisation that either has a single development team or siloed teams that barely interact with one another will be better off focusing on Collaborative Work Management.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, like most of the modules in ServiceNow, both work very well together, and their features are mostly integrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last but not least, ServiceNow provided a pretty nice summarisation of where you should focus your efforts on depending on whether you are currently using Agile 2.0 or not, and whether you work with single teams or with teams of teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"958\" height=\"514\" src=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-800234\" srcset=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image2.jpg 958w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image2-300x161.jpg 300w, https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image2-768x412.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 958px) 100vw, 958px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Source: ServiceNow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Organisations can begin the migration today by utilising the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicenow.com\/community\/cwm-articles\/cwm-amp-eap-agile-guidance\/ta-p\/3338062\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">connected work<\/a><\/strong> feature, which allows CWM boards to manage existing stories from Agile 2.0.
