Impact on CUDs (Committed Use Discounts)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Customers can still subscribe to a CUD (1 or 3 years)<\/strong>, but with new rules:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- 1-Year CUDs<\/strong> remain available for VE1 or VE2<\/strong>, in any region.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- 3-Year CUDs<\/strong> are now restricted to VE2 nodes<\/strong><\/a>, as GCVE ve1 3-year CUDs are end-of-sale<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Exception:<\/strong> the France region (europe-west9) and Milan region (europe-west8) may still order ve1 3-year CUDs.<\/strong> Since September 29th<\/strong> Google Cloud has adapted the discount rate for ve1 1-year CUDs to be identical to the discount rate for 3-year CUDs:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

- Those wishing to lock in current pricing<\/strong> can still sign a new CUD before the deadline<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Customers can sign a 1-year CUD on ve1 or ve2 in any region, and a 3-year CUD on ve2 or ve1 in Paris\/Milan only. And this is completely independent of whether the node has a license or not<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- If the customer signs a 1-year CUD now<\/strong>, it\u2019s essential to note that, after the first year<\/strong>, Google will no longer provide the license<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- After contract expiration, customers will have two options:<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Migrate to native Google Cloud services<\/strong> (GCE, GKE, etc.), or<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Continue with GCVE using the BYOL model.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
My Expert Opinion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
As a GCVE EMEA Lead at Devoteam and a Google architect, I see this as a natural evolution<\/strong>, not a disruption. Broadcom\u2019s move to centralise VMware licensing is expected; it\u2019s about control and consistency<\/strong>, not limitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From Google Cloud\u2019s perspective, GCVE remains fully stable and managed<\/strong>, and this shift does not affect the platform\u2019s reliability or performance<\/strong>. Most importantly, customers lose nothing operationally<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Performance, security, and management<\/strong> remain the same.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- And it is entirely possible to migrate to a new Private Cloud or BYOL model with zero downtime.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
In practice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Workloads keep their existing IPs<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Only management stack IPs (vCenter, NSX Manager, HCX, etc.)<\/strong> change,<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Using native migration tools like HCX<\/strong>, the transition can be completely transparent to production<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
This is a critical reassurance:<\/strong> continuity of service can be fully maintained during this transition. In the long run, this move will encourage organisations to rethink their strategy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Some will gradually modernise<\/strong> by adopting native Google Cloud services<\/strong> (GCE, GKE, AlloyDB, etc.),<\/li>\n\n\n\n
