Program management is very challenging. It requires collaboration from a wide range of stakeholders, with information flowing rapidly across a broad landscape of systems. Project plans, progress, milestones, and pathways are crucial for project data management, and if these data are not well-managed, projects can be delayed, costs can increase, and critical deadlines may be missed. However, if data is combined and structured correctly, it is very possible to meet deadlines and avoid potential obstacles in project plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Synchronization of Project Data at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wind engineering company Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy builds wind farms, and its projects span long periods with many involved parties. Constructing a new wind farm requires close collaboration, alignment, and constant synchronization of plans and progress among product development, manufacturing, and construction employees. In practice, this can be a complicated task: The required information is dense, complex, and stored in different systems, making information exchange manual, tedious, slow, and error-prone. Siemens Gamesa needed a solution to ensure that all stakeholders shared the same information quickly and effectively: “What we wanted to do with the synchronization report was improve information flows throughout the organization.” (Marianne Nicolaisen, Project Director, SYNC Program).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simultaneous Visualization and Planning of Data in Progress with Power BI<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Devoteam Data Driven created a Power BI report for the issue presented by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. This report combined data from all relevant source systems and displayed them in a single view, as shown in Image 1. The report provides an overview of different projects, their details, and milestones, while also highlighting any potential missing data for continuous solution improvement. All stakeholders have easy access to this report, ensuring the speed and quality of information. The report was developed in 2021: “We consider both the program and the report a success, as we can see increased collaboration throughout the organization.” (Marianne Nicolaisen, Project Director, SYNC Program).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
