A prevalent method involves updating their IT infrastructure and applications. However, the prospect of migration and modernization can be daunting for many organisations, prompting them to opt for a more straightforward solution &#8211;  <strong>rehosting<\/strong>. This approach allows them to experience basic cloud benefits while simultaneously exiting a data centre and laying the groundwork for digital transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/GettyImages-1221554013_Edited-2048x1363-1-1-1296x863-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6230\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-introduction\">Introduction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the Internet of Things (IoT) enables everything from Autonomous vehicles, realising the concept of Smart Cities to boosting Supply chain management efficiency. IoT applications seem endless, and they have just begun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being a leader in API Management and Integration landscape, MuleSoft has introduced ways to enable Organisations to harness the power of IoT to improve their operational efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this blog, I will give insight and an example of achieving operational efficiency by enabling IoT Device data integration between MuleSoft and AWS IoT Cloud services.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The use case for the example simulation is monitoring temperature sensors installed in manufacturing or warehouse facilities. The data will be captured, and an incident will be escalated to the Operations team for their action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AWS IoT Core provides the capability to connect things (devices) to its services ecosystem and therefore is the first layer to interface with the Device\/Sensor data. The data then gets moved into the MuleSoft ecosystem by leveraging other AWS services like SQS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To better understand the solution presented here, the audience should be familiar with the concepts of&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AWS Services\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EC2<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IAM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>EC2 Connect<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IoT Core<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cloudwatch logs<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amazon SQS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MuleSoft Anypoint Platform<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ServiceNow Incident Management<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>High-Level Flow of our Integration Solution<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/devoteam.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/4Sn0VA2hZmihBjMlmK8hxr9E0WAqJ8y-2P6vlaIolkOpHFYLH8PEDGMGpQniO-Sk8-078_gnhvknuQsIvhKGzIbEQYstLkZTDDpANLIyxZEEOlJ_1Fs7eVmY_bJOTmKNMVAFy-YD5tTIazBwX0ARmzDWTBXnQbY2qN18TNA2bBvZyc73OAhfllzXd-XHTA.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">High Level Flow<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the above diagram, The First layer consists of the sensors\/devices (we will create a virtual device to simulate the real-world sensors) that will send data to the AWS IoT Core.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The data will be processed by the AWS IoT Core Message broker and published to the Rule engine. The Rule engine then applies the filter and route to the Amazon SQS (It can also be routed to other AWS services like Lambda, S3, Kinesis etc).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once data is in the SQS Standard queue, MuleSoft API is triggered. It gets the filtered data (since IoT Rule Engine in the previous step is filtering the temperature data and allowing only the ones matching the rules) from the queue. Once it is inside the API and Integration Layer, the data is Logged, transformed and used to invoke ServiceNow Incident Service to create Incident tickets for the Operations Team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To enable the above integration, we need to set up several tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-part-1-aws-specific-configurations\"><strong>Part-1 and requires the Operations Team\u2019s attention. We have therefore used AWS IoT core rule engine to filter incoming messages for such cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here, the IoT routing rule is created, which will get the sensor data from the \u2018iot\/topics\/facility\/sensor\u2019 topic and filter the data wherein the temp exceeds 208 Degrees Fahrenheit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img
