These models simulate the behaviour of the atmosphere using equations that describe physical processes such as thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and radiation. To run effectively, they rely on a constant flow of observational data from satellites, weather stations, radar, and balloons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>most<\/strong> <strong>commonly<\/strong> used models are <strong>deterministic<\/strong> <strong>models<\/strong>, which produce a single forecast based on the best available snapshot of current atmospheric conditions. They are highly detailed and useful for short-term forecasts but are very sensitive to errors in the initial data, which can lead to significant inaccuracies beyond a few days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To address this uncertainty, meteorologists also use <strong>ensemble<\/strong> <strong>models<\/strong>. These run multiple simulations with slightly varied initial conditions, generating a range of possible outcomes. Though highly effective in densely monitored regions, performance tends to drop in <strong>data-sparse areas<\/strong> and <strong>beyond the short-term window<\/strong>.
