We have been flooded with AI tools that promise to revolutionise the way we work. ChatGPT, Gemini (formerly Bard), and Perplexity are gaining popularity for their ability to answer questions, compose content, and explore information. But which one is the best? When it comes to improving business productivity, one name stands out: Microsoft 365 Copilot.
In this article, I compare ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, proving Copilot is positioned as the most aligned with organisations’ real needs.
Microsoft Copilot vs ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini: Core Benefits
Copilot Inside Your Everyday Tools
While ChatGPT operate as a standalone assistant in a browser, Microsoft 365 Copilot is integrated into Microsoft 365. Gemini is increasingly embedded in the Workspace ecosystem, but companies using tools like Teams, Outlook, Excel or Word would benefit more from Copilot.
You can ask Microsoft Copilot to:
- Write Word documents based on other files.
- Compose emails directly in Outlook.
- Generate reports from tables in Excel.
- Summarise meetings in Teams.
And more!
Real-time Business Context
Unlike ChatGPT or Perplexity, Copilot has access to your business content in real time (if you allow it). This allows it to:
- Read and cross-reference information between documents.
- Understand previous email conversations.
- Adapt to the language and style of your organisation.
ChatGPT or Perplexity don’t have native access to your enterprise environment or user permissions, so you have to manually copy and paste information. Gemini has access to your Workspace data, but this will only be beneficial if your organisation is using Google Workspace.
Security and Compliance
In a corporate environment, security isn’t optional. Copilot operates under the Microsoft compliance umbrella.
What does it mean in practice?
- Respect for the hierarchy of permissions.
- Storing and processing data in your Microsoft 365 account.
- Compliance with regulations such as GDPR, ISO, and more.
In addition to adhering to your security guidelines, Copilot natively integrates with your security groups, DLP, eDiscovery, retention, and auditing processes, increasing control and compliance over your information.
On the other hand, using external AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity to process corporate data can pose significant security and privacy risks. Since these solutions are not integrated into the company’s secure environment, they do not guarantee compliance with internal policies or control over the handling of confidential information.
Designed to Automate, Not Just Chat
While other AIs are great at creating texts, searching for information, or writing code, Copilot is focused on automating specific everyday tasks:
- Summarise long email threads.
- Create automatic agendas or minutes.
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations based on a Word document.
Its value is not only in creativity, but in efficiency and immediate action.
Let’s hear it from Devoteam Copilot Lead Christelle Vertus, answering whether Copilot is just a chatbot (and many other questions):
User Experience is Crucial
The user experience with Copilot stands out for its simplicity and swiftness. Commands are naturally integrated into the interface of tools like Word, Excel, or Teams, and suggestions appear just when the user needs them. In addition, Copilot learns the user’s style and preferences, making the interaction increasingly fluid, personalised, and productive.
Copilot, the AI that Works with You
ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity are powerful tools, but their value proposition in the business world is limited without integrations, context, or security. Microsoft Copilot, on the other hand, is designed for businesses, works with your data, respects your rules, and improves your productivity from within.
