Meet Fredrik Magnusson: The “Jack of All Trades” Who Thrives on Autonomy

For Fredrik Magnusson, a Senior Cloud Engineer at Devoteam, there’s no single box to check. He describes himself as a “jack of all trades,” moving fluidly between infrastructure, automation, and app development.

While his current focus is on application development and architecting client infrastructure in Google Cloud, his role demands versatility. It’s a challenge he’s able to meet thanks to a culture of deep trust and independence.

Freedom to Find the Path

Fredrik’s day has a clear structure—it starts with a daily stand-up and a review of his Jira board —but his approach does not. The most important aspect of his role is the freedom he has to solve problems.

“I am very free to do not what I want, but do it how I want,” he explains.

This empowerment is a core part of the company culture. “I don’t have anyone looking over my shoulder all the time, like micromanaging me,” Fredrik says. As long as he and the client are aligned on the goal, he has “a lot of free will” to find the best possible solution.

Autonomy, Not Isolation

That independence is balanced by a deeply collaborative environment. “The culture at Devoteam is very open, very friendly,” Fredrik notes. “Everyone has everyone’s back.”

This combination is key. He has the freedom to take ownership, but he’s never alone. “If I have any questions or I need any help from anyone, I will get it,” he says. “I really appreciate that kind of culture where everyone steps up.”

From Intern to Engineer

Fredrik’s journey with Devoteam began with an internship. After meeting his current supervisor at an event and getting a “really good impression” of the company, he applied. During his internship, he was offered a full-time position and was “more than happy to stay”.

He calls the transition from his education directly into the company a “great experience,” one where he has “felt really welcome”. A major reason is the company’s commitment to growth. “Devoteam has given me a lot of opportunities within personal development,” he says. “They give the time on working hours to be able to study for these certificates and just evolve yourself.”
