The migration delivered improved security, enhanced scalability, and a foundation for AI-driven enhancements to MixStage’s platform.
Background
MixStage delivers a cutting-edge live video and audio editing platform, empowering creators with real-time capabilities. As their user base and ambitions for expansion grew, they recognised the need for a modern, robust infrastructure capable of supporting complex, high-volume transactions and ensuring a seamless, reliable user experience.

The Challenge
MixStage’s existing infrastructure, based on GCP VMs, presented several challenges:
- Operational difficulties and manual processes.
- Limitations in platform scalability.
- Frequent incidents affecting reliability.
These challenges hindered MixStage’s ability to scale effectively and meet the demands of its users.
The Solution
Devoteam’s expert development team implemented a comprehensive cloud-native solution on GCP, leveraging the power of Kubernetes and modern open-source technologies. This included:
- GKE Migration: Transitioning services from GCP VMs to GKE Autopilot and standard clusters, providing enhanced scalability and automation.
- Stunner Integration: Replacing the legacy co-turn server with Stunner, a secure and scalable open-source alternative, deployed on the GKE Autopilot cluster.
- Parallel Co-turn Implementation: Maintaining a parallel co-turn implementation on a standard cluster to support specific feature requirements, ensuring a smooth transition and feature continuity.
- Collaborative Development: Devoteam worked closely with Martin Sandström Rimsbo, MixStage’s CEO and technical lead, utilising Google Hangouts for rapid feedback and iterative development. A dedicated test server facilitated seamless collaboration and validation throughout the project.

Mixstage – GCP WebRTC Hosting Migration

The Results
Devoteam’s strategic cloud-native migration, completed within a month, delivered tangible improvements to MixStage’s platform.
Enhanced Scalability & Performance: The migration from GCP VMs to GKE Autopilot and standard clusters, coupled with the integration of Stunner, enabled MixStage to better handle increased user traffic and complex audio/video editing.
Improved Agile Development: The implementation of GKE and CI/CD pipelines facilitated faster deployment cycles and enhanced developer productivity, allowing MixStage to respond more quickly to market demands.
Streamlined Operational Workflows: The reduced need for manual intervention, due to the new cloud-native infrastructure, improved operational efficiency.
The new infrastructure provides a foundation for MixStage’s planned future growth, including multi-regional expansion and the release of new features like Dolby Atmos streaming, as mentioned by MixStage’s CEO.
The video chat server cluster Devoteam designed and set up for us is now in production and works extremely well. We are more than happy!
