What is New in ServiceNow Yokohama Release for SPM
The ServiceNow Yokohama release introduces significant enhancements to SPM (Strategic Portfolio Management) and EA (Enterprise Architecture), particularly supporting the Strategic Planning Workspace based on Next Experience. Below you will find a recap of the changes previous releases brought to SPM:
You will find highlights from the Xanadu release in our previous expert view.
Collaborative Work Management Workspace
- Enhanced Collaboration: Invite cross-team members to the Collaborative Work Management Spaces to facilitate task and project collaboration. Manage user permissions and elevate roles (e.g., from Viewer to Editor). Identify task assignees lacking workspace access via a lock icon.

- Real-time Document Collaboration: Edit documents concurrently with multiple editors. Coloured cursors indicate each editor’s current location, and they can be shown or hidden as needed.

Project Workspace
- Centralised Status Reporting: A new status report tool provides a consistent and organised reporting system within the Project Workspace. Project health, metrics, risks, issues, and milestones are presented in a more structured format.

- Confidentiality Settings: Apply confidentiality settings to projects to secure sensitive data. Access can be restricted to specified users and user groups. These security settings cascade to sub-projects, forms, and related entities.

- Project Task Checklists: Create checklists for project tasks to track activities that do not require separate subtasks. This enables more granular tracking of task completion.

Strategic Planning Workspace
- Digital Product Lens: Portfolio managers can now utilise a Digital Product lens to plan, prioritise, and roadmap work based on digital products, aligning with the overall business strategy. This lens supports work items, epics, and product ideas, and enables high-level planning using the Product Enhancement entity.

- Portfolio-Level Financial Data: View rolled-up financial data (costs and benefits) for planning items (Epics, Demands, and Projects) at the portfolio level across different time scales. Analyze Budget, Planned, Variance, Actuals, and Remaining Estimates for financial costs, and Forecasts, Actuals, and Variance for monetary benefits.

Now Assist for SPM
- Epic to Story Generation: Utilise NowAssist for EAP to generate stories from epics. NowAssist provides story recommendations based on epic details, which can be accepted, split, or combined before story creation.

- Feedback Summarisation: NowAssist for Strategic Portfolio Management can summarise feedback records, enabling the analysis of large volumes of feedback without manual review.

Resource Management Workspace
- Enhanced Resource Heatmap View: The resource allocation heatmap view now provides additional information, such as resource status, remaining capacity, and utilisation, to aid resource managers in efficient planning and allocation.

Enterprise Architecture Workspace
- Custom Modeling Diagrams: The Enterprise Modelling & Visualisation tool now allows the creation of diagrams from scratch.

- Unified Map Modeling Integration: Initiate modelling directly from any Unified map within the Enterprise Modeling and Visualisation tool.

- Indicator Score Regeneration: Generate scores for application and capability indicators for specific periods. You can also generate scores for application scoring profiles and capability scoring profiles to calculate scores for all associated indicators.

- Business Stakeholder Role Access: Read-only access to the Enterprise Architecture Workspace has been granted to the business stakeholder role (sn_apm.apm_read).
In conclusion, the ServiceNow Yokohama release’s primary focus centres on improving and developing the Next Experience and Workbench features. It marks a significant step forward in enhancing Strategic Portfolio Management and Enterprise Architecture capabilities within the Now Platform. Leveraging AI improves tools’ efficiency in terms of usage, streamlining operations, and boosting productivity.
