On May 22nd, the Hotel Porto Palácio & Spa hosted the Devoteam & AWS Customer Innovation Series, an event focused on exploring a real cloud migration and modernization journey, highlighted by the case of BIAL. This initiative, a collaboration between Devoteam and AWS, offered participants a detailed insight into optimizing cloud infrastructures and the impact of technology in the pharmaceutical sector.
During the session, speakers Romeu Rocha (Director, IT Operations & Cybersecurity – BIAL) and Rui Cardoso (Solution Architect – AWS Portugal) delved into BIAL’s success story, highlighting the following stages:
- Review and optimization of the existing AWS Landing Zone;
- Phased migration of critical workloads;
- Implementation of best practices for security, monitoring, scalability, and cost control.
Attendees learned how a modern cloud infrastructure can support critical workloads with security, scalability, and reliability. The impact of cloud migration on the pharmaceutical sector was also highlighted, with a focus on innovation and business continuity (Disaster Recovery).
In addition, AWS experts showcased the potential of Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), leveraging advanced machine learning technologies. They demonstrated how to automate critical data extraction, boost team productivity, enhance compliance and auditing, and easily scale document processing.
This event highlighted tangible results and lessons learned, including the migration of over 50 applications with zero downtime. It also outlined strategies for the next steps: modernization, FinOps, and Disaster Recovery.
