Lusiaves Group: a migration to Google Workspace

The challenge

The Lusiaves Group has always grown sustainably, keeping pace with the needs and desires of its customers and providing the best products and services. The Lusiaves Group’s ambition is to sustainably lead the national poultry production market and have a significant presence in the international market, setting trends in this sector’s vertical, and being recognized as an important generator of national wealth.

With this in mind, and with the aim of strengthening its position and improving work processes, the Lusiaves Group decided to implement Google Workspace across the entire organization. The goal of this project was to enable the Lusiaves Group to leverage the full added value of Google Workspace as efficiently as possible, with minimal disruption to business. Initially, there was a licensing issue caused by Google, which was resolved by this cloud provider’s support team. This project was made possible thanks to the years of experience that both Devoteam and Google have in the sector.

The main challenge in this project was migrating emails, calendars, personal contacts, OneDrive, and SharePoint. The project had 39 domains in a single Office 365 user, connected to a local Active Directory. There were a total of 1,100 users with 634 personal mailboxes (5.6 TB), and in addition, there were 7.3 TB of OneDrive data and 7.41 TB of SharePoint data to be migrated.

The solution

During the exploration and discovery phase, our team realized that the Lusiaves Group would need to have Google Cloud Directory Sync (GCDS) and password synchronization configured so that synchronization with its AD could begin from the outset. The Lusiaves Group played a major role in this solution because it defined which services should be activated for each domain. The customer knew that this migration would benefit the way they work and improve collaboration within the organization.

Our team knew that the Lusiaves Group is constantly recruiting new employees, so this migration had to take that into account. It was necessary to configure some tools to establish the connection between Office 365 and Google Workspace. For a massive migration of Mail, Calendar, and Personal Contacts, CloudM was used for its simplicity and ease of use.

For the mass migration of Sharepoint and Onedrive content, Rclone was the preferred tool due to its speed.

Another interesting feature developed by Devoteam was the creation of a script capable of dynamically updating email signatures with personal information such as name, job title, and phone number, as well as the image for each domain. This was made possible using the API GMAIL and Admin SDK AP provided by Google.

This project allowed the Lusiaves Group to experience all the benefits of Google’s ecosystem and integration. Google Workspace is the simplest and most user-friendly ecosystem, considering that it is used by almost everyone.
