On September 18, the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon became the central stage for a debate on artificial intelligence, featuring prominent figures from various sectors, including culture, banking, energy, public administration, and academy.

Gonçalo Saraiva Matias (Deputy Minister and Minister for State Reform) was in attendance and addressed the audience at the event’s closing, sharing his strategic vision on AI’s role in governmental efficiency. Following this, the roundtable “Utopia and Pragmatism” brought in the perspectives of Catarina Ceitil (CIO & Transformation Officer, Galp), Gonçalo Regalado (CEO, Banco Português de Fomento), Hélder Dias Ribeiro (Chief Digital & Tech Officer & Executive Board Member, SONAE MC), and Sofia Marta (Country Manager, Google Cloud Portugal). The panel addressed the challenge of balancing the ambition of AI with the realities of its practical application. The experts debated how organizations can translate the theoretical potential of technology into concrete, tangible, and profitable solutions, overcoming operational, technical, and internal adoption obstacles.

Ethics and Innovation

The conversation highlighted the need to strengthen collaboration between universities and organizations so that scientific knowledge translates into solutions that drive the economy and society.
